The new goverments proposal on high speed broadband

The new goverments new budget supported the roll out of the new highspeed broadband. The Labour party wanted to introduce a 50p tax levy on phonelines in the UK. So this would mean that every phone user in the United Kingdom needed to pay 50p a month to support URBAN (now we will get on to why its not on rural (which i think it should be)) roll out of fiber optic networks.

Now, I think this is good for the economy, because buisnesses would be able to save money on travel and hold meetings using free online services using Skype. And it would be able to load websites faster, aswell as serving websites from servers.

The rural areas should be at least number 2 on the list on things to do with this tax, beacuse some (not all) rural homes cannot receive internet (they can, but its laggy, not very stable and disconnects alot), yet the other people in the country side can get some broadband. I read a magazine called Webuser and in the letters section, lately there have been complaints about this, saying that BT want something like £900 to upgrade the copper to new copper, but at the same time i think rural areas should stay with there current speed, and stop complaining beacuse they choose to live in hills, they choose to buy a computer and they choose to signup for a internet connection. Now, if you compare the speeds of copper lines, and mobile internet in rural areas, you can only get outdoor coverage, so they should go with copper and stop complaining.
